Issue 101. Greenway To Kells
EGG HUNTING, HOT CHOCOLATE, CYBERSECURITY
Good Afternoon and Welcome,
To issue No.101. As we are currently blessed with the only bit of good weather we might see for the weekend, I’ll keep it brief…
South Kerry by the numbers
18.7: million Euros worth (or 7km) of South Kerry Greenway is now open.
49: New car parking spaces are now available to enjoy.
232,000: Visitors per year are expected, as a minimum, once the greenway fully opens, so you’d want to get out there before it gets too crowded.
First, a word from this week’s sponsor

Updates, I’ve missed a few, so now it’s time, to give them a mention
Reenroe: As I’m sure you all know by now, the proposed development on Reenroe has finally been rejected by An Coimisiún Pleanála. They rejected the development on the basis os water supply & wastewater concerns. In addition, they said it could give rise to “further similar development at such locations and would, therefore, be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area”. Which seems to put pay to any further development at all, which doesn’t bode well for the eyesore on Reenroe or our area as a whole.
Greenway: Yes, €72million is a lot of money & it’s a good way off finishing yet, but the council have just adopted a budget of €248 million for 2026 alone. €26,037,469 of that is allocated to be spent on ‘Miscellaneous Services’, so those complaining about the wasting of taxpayer funds might want to look in this direction first.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
You might not think you do, but you definitely know where this is. You do, honestly. Nobody got this last week, so here it is again. Where is it?

Congratulations to last week’s winners
Auntie Agnes’ Angle

Agnes is not with us. Have faith she shall rise again.

Best Coffee in South Kerry
So, this has got some momentum! In the many polls we’ve had so far, I don’t think we’ve ever had votes coming in the morning before the newsletter. Three new venues added last week, special mention to the recently opened River Cafe in Castlecove, best of luck to all who sail in her.
In the interests of fairness, the first week’s votes have undergone a bit of an audit due to an initial bout of widespread voter fraud (more common than you’d think) & as you can see, the contest is very much coming to the boil

So The Watch House maintains its lead, but the rest of the field is very much on their tails. Things are really frothing up in the category races too

Have Ahamore Tearooms really got the best hot chocolate in South Kerry? Only one way to find out. Give it a go and let me know
