Issue 106. Were we consulted or insulted?
HOUSES, NEW ORLEANS, DEJA VU
Good Afternoon and Welcome,
To issue No.106. Great to have such fine weather isn’t it? It was when I started writing anyway
South Kerry by the numbers
68: Currently 69 properties available to buy across South Kerry
178,500: € will get you this a ‘country cottage’ with an incredible view between Waterville & Caherdaniel.
8: Before deciding to buy that property for the view alone, please look at image 8 in the pics…
First, a word from this week’s sponsor

It’s the recycling event of the year! Don’t miss it.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
Where’s this? Really, where is it?

Congratulations to last week’s winners
No winners last week, can the really eagle eyed amongst you sweep in and take the spoils?
Auntie Agnes’ Angle

She’s official.
Dear Reader
Happy Friday folks!!
This week I’ve been preoccupied with family occasions. Communion being among them! And I am really struck by the amount of pressure parents & families are under around these events!
They are almost like mini weddings!
The spending is gone crazy …. I notice that some parents are unable to say no or even limit certain aspects around the day.
Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves?
Have we become so afraid of not matching up to the Joneses that we are willing to put ourselves under huge pressure & even into significant debt ??
It’s madness
This is official permission to do it differently
Thanks Agnes.
Consultation Deja Vu
We have a new consultation to submit our opinions on, which focuses on the bit of the greenway, over the water, outside Cahersiveen

Hardcore Oraclers will of course remember a similar picture appearing in a November 2024 issue, specifically this picture;

Remember that one? The one from this consultation, where we were choosing which of the proposed 4 routes was preferred by the local community? You remember that, don’t you? That consultation was set to follow the timeline below.

Anyone remember any of these happening? Nor do I.
Still, this is only 1.3km of Greenway we are talking about. Was it not wise that the council just went ahead and chose for us? When you think about it, it’s got to be the best way forward with developments of this type, hasn’t it? Leave the experts at it to decide & then inform whoever might own/operate land on that route? In fairness, who could argue with that?
Well, Pheilim Molloy, chairman of the INHFA wouldn’t, at a recent hearing with the joint committee of Agriculture & Food they said that consultation "must begin at the earliest conceptual stage of any proposed greenway - not after routes have been selected or funding allocated". Which is sort of what the council has done, isn’t it?
The Oracle Cartoon
This week, Tim gives us a postcard from Italy.

Thanks Tim!
Best Coffee in South Kerry
Quiet week for voting this week. Only two weeks of voting left, who deserves the title?
Also, still have no answers for this. Is there anywhere in South Kerry where you can get an omelette? If not, could one, or preferably all of the many hospitality gurus reading this, get in touch to explain why not?
Everything Else

Thanks
For reading.
To Tim & Agnes
To all of you who have waited patiently for magnets, you should now all finally have one. In the off chance (let’s face it, very good chance) I’ve missed anyone, do let me know.
Good luck, be well.
