Issue 114. Death Valley Fridge Magnet
HOUSES, SMASH BURGERS, CYCLISTS
Good Afternoon and Welcome,
To issue No.114. By way of managing expectations, I’d just like to say it has been a week of little news. Think of the time you’ll save!
South Kerry by the numbers
96: Properties are currently for sale across South Kerry on daft.ie
22: Of these are on the market for €200,000 or less
9: Of that 22 are missing a roof, or doors, or windows.
195,000: € will get you this which, dare I say it, seems quite good value.
First, a word from this week’s sponsor
We are also currently recruiting for the next term SHEP Cert in Personal Development 2026-2027. We have extended the Cork and Kerry closing date to July 15th. Please pass the word around to people who could benefit from the training. For all these courses you can access the online application form by clicking on this link
All fresh, nothing frozen. Our beef comes from Miller's Cahersiveen and our Fish from Daly's. What’s not to love?
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
So, when I took this, I thought it was particularly difficult. Now I think we’ve had it before… Where’s this sign?

Congratulations to last week’s winners
Hopefully, you were all winners last week and attended the wonderful celebrations at Bridie’s
Auntie Agnes’ Angle

She’s quoting.
Dear Reader
Happy Friday to you all. July is here & The sun is back. Summer is officially here.
It feels different this year. All the talk of higher temperatures and extreme heat in Europe have infiltrated the usual glee at the arrival of Sun and heat. Many people are dying, there are landscapes and animals that are in grave danger. We can no longer deny it.
Yet it is a very difficult topic to discuss with friends and family. People are just surviving the grind of daily life and I feel uncomfortable bringing up climate change as I don’t want to increase the suffocating hopelessness.
There is a danger that we will become more disconnected from each other if living with denialism and minimisation around what is happening now.
However, to quote the poet Audre Lorde, our silence will not protect us.
Disconnection and helplessness are a terrible sort of suffering, they impact us physically and emotionally. It shows up in our bodies and relationships.
Feeling effective and actively hopeful can remedy these issues.
Changing hope from something you have to something you do.
Small steps and actions matter. Pick up that litter, clean the beach, grow wildflowers, grow vegetables, use glass containers instead of plastic, walk & cycle when you can. Chat to a neighbour, go camping.
These actions generate hope and will save another day!
Thanks Agnes. (I have a suspicion she might have written this yesterday).

So last week I left you with a question. Nobody answered, shame on you. So, where do you think has the best ice cream in South Kerry??
A second question for you, because I’m greedy. I’m thinking of merchandise. Tea-towel or sun hat?
Good luck, be well.
Dave
