Issue 13. On a Friday...
Stay safe out there
Good Morning and Welcome,
To lucky issue No. 13… This week we have a Valentia adventure, more on the Reenroe saga & very Kerry planning department flavoured numbers. As ever, if you’d like to sponsor/advertise get in touch.
Also another festival, a same same but different game & anything & everything else exciting.
South Kerry by the numbers:
239: Equals the total number of documents relating to the proposed hotel development on Reenroe available on the council planning website.
48: Of these are submissions against said development.
0: Submissions in support of said development.
119: Documents in the initial planning application.
First, A word from this week’s sponsor
Do you dream of being an adventurer on Valentia? Well, Saturday brings you your best chance ever. Emma from the flourishing new local business Oileán Adventures is offering an action-packed day of hiking, biking, grease lightning* & a boat trip. Good woman that she is, for local business owners or adventure enthusiasts Emma is giving a 50% discount for Saturday’s excursion. Places are limited, so get on it, just email [email protected] or drop her a DM Oileán Adventures.

*Cannot guarantee the presence of grease lightning, this may have been included for purely rhythmical purposes.
So, What’s going on with Reenroe?
As avid ‘oraclers’ you’ll remember that giant “hotel” development proposed for Reenroe beach. You may have also heard this week that the planning decision has been delayed as Kerry County Council has requested more information. What you won’t have heard from the other media outlets, is what (given the amount of documents highlighted above) more information they need?
Well, thanks to an incredibly prompt and helpful reply from the council planning department (deadly serious, email answered in about 30 minutes) here’s what they are looking for more information on:
The proposed wastewater treatment and water quality in general
More detail on the proposed music/P.A. system
An asbestos & construction waste assessment
A bucketload more info on the ecological impact, with particular emphasis on Chough habitat impingement
An archaeological assessment
More, much much more info on fire safety/stormwater management
This newsletter is not about my opinion, so I try not to let it show up very often. Wherever you sit on the validity or viability of this project, it’s done an excellent job of illustrating that people do have a voice, are willing to use it, & the council are willing to listen.
So that, in my opinion, is fantastic news.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
Loads more entries last week, so I’m sticking with the new format
What’s written on this sign, bonus points if you know where it is?

Easy wasn’t it? Wasn’t it? Want to know if you are right? Click below

Ger Deasy, Rosemary Hill & the unknown soldier who got everything right apart from their name.
Applause, Applause, Applause.
If it wasn’t easy enough or you have a suggestion for a better name, a better game even, unlucky. I’m sticking with this for a good few weeks.
