Issue 15. Hypno, Eco, Faero, Cube
After 15 weeks, you'd have thought I'd get better at titles.
Good Morning and Welcome,
To issue No. 15 This week there’s a look at the Eco Lodge that’s just been granted planning in Cahersiveen, a local business going viral for being away with the faeries & some mighty fundraising.
Also a double helping of your favourite game & a few more bits.
South Kerry by the numbers:
720: People, on average, are searching online for information on the South Kerry Greenway every month.
1600: People, on average, are searching online for information on Derrynane every month.
288,000: People visited Derrynane in 2022, to give those numbers a bit of context.
First, a word from this week’s sponsor
Given we are fortunate enough to live somewhere that (ordinarily) enjoys the Sun’s radiation more than most of the country, you may well, like me, have thought about solar panels.
Whilst thinking about Solar panels I found myself drowning in questions. Can I put them on a flat roof? Will I ever be able to get anyone down to South Kerry? How do the grants work? Do they work on grey days (like today)?
Fortunately, I found gilroys.ie not only were my questions answered, but they were answered in a timely and knowledgeable fashion, the kind of knowledge that can only be gained through 30 years of experience. Martin Gilroy and his team were responsive, quick, competent and of exceptional value. If you’ve any questions at all, just give them a call on 066 7115 920 and I guarantee they’ll know the answers.
In case you had the same questions as I did;
Yes, they will come to South Kerry, our setup was up and running less than two weeks after ordering.
Gilroys takes care of all the grants, I just filled out one form on the SEAI site, and they do the rest.
Our solar panels are currently, yes, on a day like today, generating enough electricity to run a 48 bedroom eco lodge.*
*Well, that may have been a bit of artistic licence, but as of 10.30am today our system has generated about 40% of our average daily usage.
Car-free Eco Lodge planned for Cahersiveen

Yes, that’s the best image I could find
This week the council conditionally approved planning for the SivEco Resorts Co development just up from the Barracks on Bridge Street, Cahersiveen. Incredibly aptly for South Kerry, SivEco Resorts Co, is made up of a consortium of O’Sullivan’s who are transforming 1.8 acres of ‘central backland greenfield’ to a ‘state of the art ecotourism accommodation facility’ that has the potential to add 92 daily bed spaces to Cahersiveen.
To allay anyone’s fears that this may go the same way as many of our current accommodation providers, one of the planning conditions stipulates any change of use, from short-term letting will require additional permission.
Fantastic to see a forward thinking project like this get the go ahead, without a single objection and with representations from three of our local councillors. Well done all concerned.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
Double the fun but half the difficulty, two signs, both with the same thing on them, what is it?
Where’s this sign?

Too easy this week. You must know where it is? Click below to see just how right you are
Congratulations to last week’s Winners 🍰🍰🍰
Vinny Murphy, Rosemary and Peter Hill, Emilia Main, Mike Greaney, Siobhán Clifford & Wild Guess, who all knew it was the Oratory, Cahersiveen last week.
Local Faeries bring their magic to Instagram

Irish Faery Houses is a small business based just outside Kilgarvan who are killing it on Instagram. Raging fans and celeb endorsements from the likes of Tommy Tiernan have seen them grow to the best part of 100,000 followers and their videos have racked up millions of views.
They source all materials for the houses from South Kerry and have had such a run of success, you can’t even buy one at the moment, so give them a follow to see when next available.
Everything Else
Congrats to Valentia Island Vermouth who’ve been announced as a finalist in the @blasnaheireann Irish Food Awards 2024.
Mighty stuff from Piarsaigh na Dromoda who have convinced a whole host of South Kerry natives to get involved with their The Cube fundraiser, tickets here.
The 2024 Rose of Tralee Roses will be in Castlecove on Wednesday at 2.15pm, they’ll be in Sneem at 3.15pm, must be accounting for the tourists on the road.
Ger O’Shea is back to The Villa in Waterville on Sunday
Heatwave are in Murts on Saturday.
If you do one thing this weekend, why not get hypnotised (literally) to the sound of Eddie’s outdoor disco? All kicking off opposite the Bridge Bar, Portmagee, with all proceeds going to Cumanh Iveragh. Class.
Just Announced

Very late this week, John Draper kept me talking too long on the beach this morning, so here’s a poster for that last event in case you thought I was making it up.
Thanks
