Issue 18. School's in for Summer

Clubs, a Jellyfish, a Quiz and three GOATs.

Good Morning and Welcome,

To issue No.18 What will you learn at the Derrynane Summer School? TWO unbelievably good raffles & a burrowing sea anemone from Valentia.

South Kerry by the numbers*:

  • 6: Houses over €500,000 are currently on the market in South Kerry, feeling flush?

  • 6: Habitable houses available for €200,000. By habitable I mean with a roof, that might be watertight. There are others

  • 1: Residential rental available throughout South Kerry, here it is.

  • 2: Commercial properties available, both in Cahersiveen

*Thanks to those of you who guided me towards another publication’s flagrant duplication of this feature with no sources cited. I’d just like to make it clear, that the South Kerry Oracle will always cite its sources and is in no way associated with the Irish Examiner. Thank you.

First, a word from this week’s sponsor

Have you got your tickets yet? No? Well, this is your only chance to get them.

Even if you have no interest at all, this is the only rugby club in South Kerry and it needs your help to keep punching well above its weight. Iveragh Eagles RFC has no pitch, no clubhouse, and no senior team (so buy a ticket or two and help us change that). This weekend the club has two players in the u19 Munster Squad, 1 in the Munster Senior Women’s squad & plenty of future stars returning for the first week back training.

If you know of any boy or girl u14 across Iveragh who might like to join us, we’re back training tomorrow at 11am, Over The Water, Cahersiveen. Come along, we’ll give you a great welcome. If you want to find out more, just get in touch.

Lastly, I’m delighted to announce a first, an Oracle exclusive! Next Sunday, *th September, Iveragh Eagles will be joined at their funday by none other than Munster & Ireland star Calvin Nash along with Munster & Maori All Black Alex Nankivell. ALL WELCOME. Loads of rugby based fun on offer too, you will never understand the excitement that can be generated by flipping a tyre, unless you come along…

Lastly, BUY A TICKET. If you have one already, get another, they are only €10.

The Liberator still educating us after all these years

The Daniel O’Connell Summer School is packed full for another year. It starts today in The Ring of Kerry Hotel. Full programme here. It’s started actually, so get on over.

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

Where’s this sign?

I’m not sure it is getting easier every week. They all seem really obvious when you take the photos! This one is easy though, isn’t it?

Congratulations to last week’s Winners 🍰🍰🍰

Edwarsia delapiae, remember that name

Absolutely all of you I’d imagine, will be aware of the genius that was Maude Delap. But did you know that this is the species of burrowing sea anemone, discovered on Valentia, that bears her name? Well, you do know. Looks a good bit like an Islander doesn’t she?
