Issue 19. Don't bother with asking Daithi

Summer summaries, an Aunt of Agony, yet more festivities

Good Morning and Welcome,

To issue No.19 (N-n-n-n-nineteen) First an apology for last week’s daft.ie links, they’ll be better in future. This week, there’s our summer in numbers, a long awaited festival return & a new ear for South Kerry.

South Kerry by the numbers:

  • 296.5: mm of rain fell on us this summer, which sounds awful, but is less than 4mm per day & nearly 40% less than last year.

  • 14.27: °C was the average summer temperature. 11% down on last year and the coldest for the last 4 years.

  • 11.22: % warmer than the Long Term Average data over the last 30 years. So looks like we did have a good summer after all…

First, a word from this week’s sponsor

Have you got your tickets yet? No? Well, this is your only chance to get them.

Even if you have no interest at all, this is the only rugby club in South Kerry and it needs your help to keep punching well above its weight. Iveragh Eagles RFC has no pitch, no clubhouse, and no senior team (so buy a ticket or two and help us change that).

If you know of any boy or girl u14 across Iveragh who might like to join us, we’re back training tomorrow at 11am, Over The Water, Cahersiveen. Come along, we’ll give you a great welcome. If you want to find out more, just get in touch.

Lastly, BUY A TICKET. If you have one already, get another, they are only €10.

Cur le Chéile brings us together next weekend

With much talk of closing for the season, changes in opening hours and darker mornings you may have been convinced we’ve had our fun for another year. Well, not according to the good folks in Caherdaniel & Castlecove, who bring us Cur le Chéile, starting next Friday. Whether a Wim Hoff warrior or waiting for Sunday’s winedown (superb punning) this new return of an old festival has something for every one of us. Some highlights in case your eyesight is similar to mine

  • Derrynane’s James O’Shea with his last ever garden tour.

  • Local dramatics group Wild Atlantic Play (bravo).

  • Saturday night’s open air concert featuring the St Crohans Gospel Choir.

  • Dancing at crossroads, discos & castles.

  • And by no means least, a Home Brew competition. Genius.

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

Where’s this sign?

OK, so, I was pretty confident last week that all of you would know the answer, so this week a clue: This establishment is well known by a name not on this sign, either name is a correct answer. I’m sure you know where it is now, don’t you?

Congratulations to last week’s Winners 🍰🍰🍰

Last week, it was of course, The Butler Arms, Waterville. Whilst the sign has been there since Amergin first arrived, it turns out it wasn’t as obvious as I thought.

Commiserations all. This week is your week 🤞🤞🤞
