South Kerry by the numbers:

RH42
There he is, our newest arrival, RH42, though to me, he looks more like a Sean, potentially a Julia, if you have any better suggestions, just hit reply.
September sees local twitchers poised, reporting fingers at the ready, for our influx of new visitors for the winter. Along with Mediterranean Gulls, we can expect to see Yellow-Legged Gulls, Sandpipers of all denominations & banquets of Sandwich Terns. The highlight of the South Kerry season comes when Ballinskellig Castle is conquered by Brent Geese, where numbers up to 50 are regularly recorded.
September also sees the start of high season for The Irish Wetland Bird Survey (I-WeBS) co-ordinated by birdwatch Ireland and funded by the NPWS, you can get involved here.

Agnes had a reader get in touch with a problem many of you will know only too well:
“I know all the signs except the ones that appear in the quiz. Well I know them too obviously it's just that for some strange reason I never get them right. This is causing me a lot of sleepless nights and I am sinking into a deep depression from which there is no sign of escape. Can you help?”
Agnes Answers:
Thank you for sharing your woe, Reader! This sounds like a frustrating predicament. Sleep deprivation and deep depression are no fun at all. However, it is not the inability to name the sign that is causing you difficulty, it is more your reaction to the not knowing that has impacted your wellness and by the sounds of it your confidence. It would be helpful to look at this from another angle. I would suggest looking at this as a challenge. Get out there with your senses sharpened, maybe use a camera or sketch pad, get really familiar with all these signs that are causing you this unnecessary stress. Use this opportunity to become more observing of what is around you, this will help in developing your mindfulness skills which will lead to being more in the present moment which then results in sleep returning, confidence rising, depression lifting and prizes galore from the South Kerry Oracle. I hope this is helpful, please let us know how it’s going !!!

The Oracle’s First Cartoon
Please take a deep breath, exhale, and enjoy this delightful scene brought to us by the masterful stroke work of Ballinskelligs local Tim Booth.

Wonderful, isn’t it? If you are still exhaling, inhale and repeat that pattern for at least the rest of the day. Stay tuned for more from Tim in the coming weeks.
Everything Else
Cur le Chéile festival in Caherdaniel is very much off and running, look out for the fungi foragers as we speak. Events continue throughout the weekend. The biggest drum in Ireland is there Sunday afternoon, what possible excuse is there for not going and having a go at that?
Well, I suppose you could go to Dingle with Kerry Aqua Terra, leaving Knightstown @10am, more here.
Congratulations to South Kerry u15’s on their Championship win last weekend.
Just Announced

A festival celebrating the life and works of Seán Ó Conaill, the founding father of folklore in Iveragh. Much more on this next week.
Thanks
