Issue 27. Ballinskelligs Hogs the moonlight
Nature, POLITICS, Breakfast, Agnes, Pints
Good Morning and Welcome,
To issue No.27 This week there’s a secretive visitor to Ballinskelligs, a smidgen of politics, a plea from Agnes & a pint sized leaderboard.
South Kerry by the numbers:
11: Candidates have officially declared their intention to run in the general election 2024, prior to it being announced.
1: The above figure includes just 1 sitting TD, not a Healy-Rae amongst them!
11,989: Votes needed to win a seat at the last election.
66.91: Was the percentage who turned out to vote last time around, can we get it to 70 in 2024?
First, a word from this week’s sponsor
If you’ve not visited Joanna & Eric @ The Beachcove yet now is your chance! Their outstanding breakfasts, light & hearty lunches & pancakes par excellence are available throughout the close season. Thoroughly decent people that they are they’ve recently launched a loyalty card coffee scheme to save you a few pennies too, bargain!
Now that you know theres a spacious interiors showroom just outside Kenmare, have you been to their 20% off autumn sale? Sale ends Saturday, herself is in Kenmare today, pray for me.
Incredibly convincing Halloween costume spotted in Ballinskelligs

A real treat for Ballinskelligs’ answer to Attenborough, meet Hoggy, a visitor who has taken up residence in his garden. Isn’t he/she a beaut? Whilst Hoggy was unavailable for an interview they whatsapped me to ask if anyone has a small one wandering around their garden would they feed it? As we need to be a certain weight to survive hibernation we’ll eat apple, chopped bird nuts, blueberries, tomatoes, bananas, cat food, scrambled eggs, cooked potatoes and carrots, cooked chicken, all cut into small pieces 👍. Also look 👀 out for us on the roads in the evenings as we are in serious decline.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
Another reader submitted one this week & it’s a cracker. I’m 100% certain you’ve all seen this one.
Where’s this sign?

Congratulations to last week’s Winners 🍰🍰🍰
Last week, it was of course, the gallery in the IRD building, Waterville, obviously.
David fitz
Martha Fitzgerald
South Kerry’s finest sign spotting siblings maintain their position at the top of the leaderboard. Congratulations both.

Dearest Reader,
I can only heal with your help, so help me to help you. Tell me your niggles, annoyances, pickles, puzzles. To quote Indeep “Theres not a problem I can’t fix, cos I can do it, in the mix. And if your man gives you trouble Just you move out on the double And you don't let it trouble your brain 'Cause away goes troubles Down the drain
I said away goes troubles
Down the drain”
Want to be healed? Then please, please just
Where has the best pint in South Kerry?
Well, the competition is definitely heating up, with barely a mouthful separating 3rd 4th & 5th. The top two have swapped places almost every week so who will be crowned the outright winner? You decide
