Issue 40. And we're never gonna survive, unless, we get a little cratey
Statue, Fish, Love, SEALs
Good Morning and Welcome,
To issue No.40: This week, A late one, due, in no small part to the council meeting going on as we speak, just three browser tabs away from where this newsletter is being written. Also, Tim is back with a slice of tranquillity & some rescued visitors.
South Kerry by the numbers:
0: Properties to rent in South Kerry.
71: Properties available to buy.
1: At €1.45million, fancy it?
First, a word from this week’s sponsor

All is full of love at The Lobster. Just call or call in to book.
And Iron Mick Murphy, where is your monument? Build it so high, in Cahersiveen

Iron Man Mick mile-a-minute Murphy
As someone who was blown by the wind to these parts, I was unaware of the legend that was Cahersiveen native Mick Murphy. To those suffering the same misfortune, Mick Murphy won the 1958 Rás Tailteann, a national road cycle race, but he was so much more than that. For the uninitiated, do I have a bank holiday story for you to read. For those wanting a shorter intro, his Wikipedia page is something of a classic.
Also known as the clay pigeon, this man deserves a statue for the quality of his nicknames alone, let alone the swashbuckling, fire eating, professional wrestling/darts playing, cows blood drinking, hand walking life he lead. This is exactly what the Commemoration Committee in Cahersiveen are proposing & Councillor Norma Moriarty brought to the council's attention at this morning’s meeting.
This is a man who deserves commemoration, if any of the good people of said committee are reading, I’d love to help any way I can, which goes for any of us reading, doesn’t it?
For those supporters expecting a juicy, access-all-areas, fly on the wall account of said council meeting, I am leaving you, once again, disappointed. Whilst I have access and am looking at said meeting, I can’t hear a thing. You can be safe in the knowledge that it doesn’t look very exciting anyway, so I’ll choose something more interesting, suggestions welcome.
We Should Celebrate the Open in Close Season.
Thanks for everyone who got in touch. To all of you out and about this week, do call in to one of these brave businesses still serving our towns & villages.

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
No sign this week, blame the council.
Congratulations to last weeks Winner 🎺🎺🎺
David Fitz
Highly Impressive. Securing his place as sign spotter extraordinaire, well done.
SEALs Rescue

This individual spent the day on Reenroe last week. He was spotted by local wildlife hero Chris who was ably assisted by local Irish Whale & Dolphin Group volunteer Cathy O’Donovan, and channelling his inner Tarzan returned the Seal to the Sea at High Water.
I also have, as yet unconfirmed reports, of a young dehydrated seal washed up on Ballinskelligs Beach, seal rescue was called & the youngster was shipped off to Cork in a dog crate for rehabilitation. Whilst I have no documentary evidence as yet, it did give rise to the awful pun in the subject line of this newsletter. Worth it.
Auntie Agnes Is Away
