Iron Mike Murphy’s Monument Maintaining Momentum

Being the ever attentive Oracler that you are, you’ll remember, cylclist, strongman, circus performer, South Kerryman extraordinaire, Iron Mike Murphy from previous issues. Here’s a brief refresher if needed (shame on you).
You will of course remember that due to the tireless work of the Mike Murphy Memorial Cycle Club, Kerry County Council gave their backing in principle to erecting a statue of the 1958 Rás winner in Caherciveen (specifically, see pic).
Mike Greaney, secretary of the Mike Murphy Memorial Cycle Club, has advised they are still, sadly, awaiting the go ahead from the council. It is hoped that it will be approved at next Friday’s Kenmare municipal district meeting.
"We’d love to have it built in Caherciveen, but it really is a decision for the Council. We understand there is a certain process the council must go through and this takes time, but it's looking unlikely that we will get the statue done for his tenth anniversary this year as we had hoped."
We look forward to some good news from the council next week. If you bump into a councillor in the meantime, be sure to remind them!
We Should Celebrate the Open in Close Season.
A good few new ones we should be visiting this week.

OK so, thanks to the top level data analysis provided a few weeks ago, we now know that the season starts next week. If you are a business owner who wants to be on the list, add yourself in the directory bit below.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
So, something a bit different this week. Obviously, huge numbers of you, will know where this sign is, but can you tell me what is written on it, too?

Congratulations to last week’s winner
That’s right, for the second time in the history of the competition, we have no winners from last week. None of you could identify the sign for the Emlagh Loop walk sign @ Reenroe, so as one very important reader requested, there’s last week’s answer for you, if anyone agrees with the suggestion I should include the answer every week, just hit reply.
Some Men For Two Men

Michael O’Sullivan (Valentia, left) & Conall Cournane (Caherdaniel, right, the one who isn’t Donal Lenihan) continued on their unprecedented pathways this week by starting & winning a Leinster & Munster Senior Schools Cup Trophy each. For those uninitiated in rugby, be safe in the knowledge that this is no small potatoes, Brian O’Driscoll himself, for all his accolades, didn’t win one.
For both these lads, having recently joined two of the most celebrated rugby schools in the country (Blackrock College & CBC), to even make the squad, would be big news, to make the starting team for the final, speaks volumes, libraries even, of not only their aptitude, but their effort. Congratulations gentleman, you continue to be the pride of our peninsula.
Rugby all started for these two, at your local rugby club, Iveragh Eagles RFC, one of the youngest, smallest and most remote rugby clubs in the country. The trail they have blazed is now being followed by many & our club boasts involvement with both boys and girls from u18s to u8s. This from a club with no senior team, clubhouse, not even a pitch to call their own.
Wouldn’t you like to part of this fairytale? You would of course & you can be, join here and not only can you help the future Michael’s & Conall’s of South Kerry, but you’ll get access to tickets too, 6 Nations, Autumn Internationals & key Munster fixtures. Talking of key Munster fixtures, it’s just been announced they’ll play Argentina on Nov 1st, join today & you’ll have access to the presale.
We will start a directory
