Issue 63. Opinions Wanted

Mermaids, Tales, Short Term Travails

Good Morning and Welcome,

To issue No.63. Glorious isn’t it? I hope you’re reading this outside; if not, you should be.

South Kerry by the numbers

  • 1: Property is available to rent in South Kerry

  • 2: ‘Livable’ properties available to buy for less than €150,000. Though I think I’m really stretching the definition of livable here, one in Cahersiveen, one towards Ballinskelligs.

  • 46: 4 bedroom properties listed on Airbnb within a 10km radius of Cahersiveen.

First, a word from this week’s sponsor

Holiday Homes, opinions wanted

So, you might, like a concerned Oracle reader, have heard about the complex relationship between the government’s new, nationwide Rent Pressure Zone legislation & the Short Term Rental industry. If not, here’s an article that explains the conflict well, essentially.

  • There aren’t any hotel beds

  • All Short Term Rentals in Rent Pressure Zones will need planning permission

  • Planning will likely be refused & the weight of applications would cause unprecedented delays in the planning department.

As all of us would be directly affected by this, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you applied for planning? Putting the house up for sale? Looking to buy a house and wish there were more available? A business owner dependent on the industry? A politician with an answer? Just hit reply.

Best Broadband in South Kerry?

Here is a picture of our results map & here’s a more interactive version. You’ll see by far the most popular provider is Ivertec, which also has the largest discrepancy in speeds. From over 200Mbps in places less than 10Mbps in others. This is interesting, isn’t it? Isn’t it? If not, just hit reply.

This will be way more useful if more of you do it? Sneem residents, particularly, I’m looking at you. Just go here, click go, record the number below

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

A week off this week, if you are out enjoying the weather, find a sign, take a pic and send it over. Will be back next week.

Congratulations to last week’s winner

  • Dave Shortall

Take a bow Dave, two or three even. For another week the only person able to identify it was, of course, the sign for Culoo Rock, Valentia.

We will start a directory

This week, a reader really does need her help:

Dearest Agnes

Do you have any advice to help people who are bored senseless with everybody?

Dear Avid Oracle Reader

Thank you for your woe. It sounds like a frustrating place to dwell! How awful to be constantly bored by folk

Is it an old experience or are you new in this space?

Our thoughts and feelings are information for us about the environments we are in . They are information not facts !!

For me , It sounds like your needs are not being met where you are currently hanging out. There are several things that could be considered: do you need to join groups, others with the same interests as you? Take up new hobbies to relight your spark for life?  If this sounds like dribble to you. Maybe it’s time to dig deeper and explore what the boredom is here to tell you about yourself.

Why has this boredom taken over the driving seat now? Maybe it’s a symptom of over/underwhelm.

I would invite you to engage with a professional to explore this further.

Hope this helps

What woes you? She can’t help if you don’t
