Issue 73. Anyone got a good idea for a title?

Bar, Chart, Darts, Jazz

Good Morning and Welcome,

To issue No.73. Is September winter now? This week, Agnes returns with an as yet unnamed bit. Tim’s on fire & the night is full of culture

Best Broadband in South Kerry?

The results are in.

Best Average Speed: Eir

Now, its fair to say I hadn’t anticipated the fibre broadband rollout to have reached South Kerry during the course of this survey, which may have skewed the data a bit. Some important points to note:

  • Top speed recorded was 534Mbps, provided by Vodafone.

  • Whilst Eir dominates the highest speeds, it’s clear to see that most of these are fixed connections. As a former Eir customer, I’d like to make it clear that this is not a recommendation.

So, what’s next? By popular demand, Best Pint in Kerry will return in the winter, but anything else before then? We’ve done beaches, broadband & mince pies. Anything else? Just hit reply.

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

OK so, there weren’t enough clues. As nobody got it last week, have another go. This location will feature again in this very newsletter, can’t make it any easier than that, can I?

Congratulations to last week’s winners

We will start a directory

Auntie Agnes Authors

So, that name might change. Bored senseless with waiting for you to ask her, Agnes has taken a more proactive approach to making our world a better place. Enjoy:

Happy Friday Reader, I hope these musings find you well. I heard recently that Jehovah Witness’ do not celebrate birthdays, this has really intrigued me. I decided to check if it was true and apparently it is! I also read that they do not celebrate other traditional holidays as they believe their origins are from pagan beliefs, where God is not acknowledged.

This has left me wondering what a year without celebrating birthdays, Christmas, Easter would be like. It could actually be liberating, not having to worry about money, being original and thoughtful with presents or even just remembering the dates!!

The downside of course is you would receive less presents! However, in a world that is jam packed stuff and pressure, I am really being to warm to the idea of a year without presents and holidays …. this does not mean less fun or laughing!! Who is with me????

In case folk were interested, Birthday celebrations originated in ancient civilizations, particularly in Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The Egyptians are believed to have conceptualized birthdays around 3,000 years before the common era, although their celebrations were not like modern ones. The earliest recorded birthday party in Western history is mentioned in the Old Testament, where an Egyptian pharaoh celebrated his birthday. The Romans were notable for celebrating the birthdays of all people, not just religious figures, and they established public holidays for famous citizens.  Initially, birthday celebrations were primarily reserved for gods and goddesses, honoured with feasts and rituals. Then, we all became gods and goddesses and started celebrating our birthdays!

Don’t you feel better?
