Issue 75. Windy, isn't it?

GREENWAY, GREENWAY, GREENWAY, GREENWAY

Good Morning and Welcome,

To issue No.75. Well, it’s October, definitely.

South Kerry by the numbers

  • 143: Applications have been made in the Kenmare Municipal District for the vacant property refurbishment grant over the last three years.

  • 74: Of these have been approved

  • 12: Have been paid.

First, a word from this week’s sponsor

Ever fancied yourself as a beekeeper? You have, haven’t you? So here’s your chance from an expert and a gentleman.

And Another

Those nice woolly types at the Festival of Botanical Colours wanted me to let you know that they will be making ink from oak galls gathered locally, you will also be able to have a go at some rudimentary weaving,  Paddy Bushe will be reading some nature poems and poems about colours and tapestries in Irish and English. And there is going to be a Wool & Vintage Haberdashery swap table on Sunday 26th.   See poster for details.  Tickets here

South Kerry Greenway Opening Date Revealed! (well, hinted at)

Couldn’t quite bring myself to go full clickbait on that title.

So, having sat through, I think, half a dozen of our council meetings, having put you through the same amount, I was surprised this week to learn that I should have been attending meetings of the Killarney Chamber of Commerce for Greenway updates.

For it was at their luncheon (don’t you know), as reported by the doyen of local journalism that is Killarney Today, that the opening was announced. Whilst addressing chamber members last week, the CEO of Kerry County Council, Fearghal Reidy, said the first phase of the South Kerry Greenway would be operational within the next six months.

Now, I wasn’t there to ask him, but it does seem to me a curious state of affairs that raises more than a few questions:

  • Will it really be open by March next year?

  • What/where exactly is the first phase of the South Kerry Greenway?

  • Would it not have been more appropriate to make such an announcement in South Kerry?

  • Why was there no mention of this in the municipal district meeting 2 days later?

Along with no doubt many others. So I’ll ask them all these questions. If you have any better ones, just hit reply.

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

Tougher one this week, so I’ve left a bit in for you, I’m good like that.

Congratulations to last week’s winners

  • Mary O Sullivan

  • Deirdre

  • No Name

Well done to all of you, who correctly identified that it was of course, Banks’.

Thanks for reading. Late one, isn’t it?

This week, we bid a fond farewell to The Fertha Bar, Cahersiveen, that’s sadly closed its doors. Best of luck to Cahersiveen & Iveragh United FC’s own Ronan Teahan in the FAI Cup semi-final on Sunday evening.

Also, will absolutely, positively, definitely get magnets out this week to those who have been patiently waiting.

Good luck, be well

Dave
