Issue 78. Get Up & Vote
Stories, Pumpkins, RATS, Results
Good Morning and Welcome,
To issue No.78. I wouldn’t want to get in the way of you making history, so, without further delay
South Kerry by the numbers
139: € p/sqm has to be the cheapest house that has ever featured in this numbers bit, or a typo. It is a typo, but is still cheap enough
30,000: € Will get you a bedroom in this formerly council owned property in Glenbeigh. You’ll remember in issue 48 Cllr. Tommy Cahill advised us that there are rats the size of a “cat or dog” currently living in it. So not only a cheap enough dwelling but also a groundbreaking opportunity for nature based tourism.
80,000: € will get you the cheapest ‘house’ in South Kerry though, I’ve still yet to identify it’s 3 bedrooms & 4 bathrooms. Can you?
First, a word from this week’s sponsor
THIS WEEKEND!!!!
Those nice woolly types at the Festival of Botanical Colours wanted me to let you know that they will be making ink from oak galls gathered locally, you will also be able to have a go at some rudimentary weaving, Paddy Bushe will be reading some nature poems and poems about colours and tapestries in Irish and English. And there is going to be a Wool & Vintage Haberdashery swap table on Sunday 26th. See poster for details. Tickets here

The Results Are In
So, you weren’t as bored with the election as I thought, about 10% of you responded, well done! Here are the results

Support for Connolly is strong in South Kerry. 73% of the poll strong. With many of you commenting on her eloquence, integrity & appetite for social justice. Not one of you mentioned her soccer/basketball skills, which I’m childish enough to admit is a big reason she’s getting my vote.
Whilst she still received some votes, Heather Humphries did not receive any such plaudits, with two (I can’t believe it was two of you) felt Ireland’s most famous Turkey would do a better job.
For the none of the above’rs, we’ve already spent a load of money on this election, so you might aswell join in. That said, in the Journal’s latest poll showed Jim Gavin on 10% of the vote, I think there is some sort of protest campaign around it. I was also told that should he achieve 12.5% of the vote, Fianna Fail will receive their election spend back. Given their campaign from start to throwing the candidate nobody wanted under a couple of buses, showed a complete contempt for the electorate, I don’t think that’s the kind of thing to be rewarded. Still, that’s the beauty of democracy, I suppose.
It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺
A new sign! But where is it?

Congratulations to last week’s winners
David fitz
Well done once again David. Triumphing over the adversity of me forgetting to put the answer up. Apologies to everyone else who answered, it was by St Finians Church, not the Inny Bridge.
Auntie Agnes’ Angle

She’s definitely back next week.
