Issue 80. Is There Anything To Be Said For Yet Another Vote?

PINTS, STORIES, DARTS, DUNES

Good Morning and Welcome,

To issue No.80. This week, we lost a pond in Derrynane, but gained a lagoon. For those of you concerned by the plight of the Natterjack, I’ve been told contingencies were in place and we’ll have more on that next week.

South Kerry by the numbers

  • 584: Votes were cast in the innaugural ‘Best Pint in South Kerry’ competition last year.

  • 17: Different South Kerry Establishments were voted for.

  • 8: Weeks, we spent voting on this last year…

And Another

Best Pint in South Kerry 2025

Without doubt, the most hotly contested competition since the inception of this newsletter returns for 2025. Let’s remind ourselves of the final leaderboard from last year:

As I’m a firm believer in the adage, ‘you're only as good as your next game’ there is a small change this year following on from accusations of suspicious voter patterns from vocal minorities.

On the one hand, I see no reason to dampen a readers enthusiasm for the provider of their preferred pint. On the other hand, this award should be based upon merit, not brigading. So the more nimble fingered of you will have your influence a bit more muted this year.

Vote Now:

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

I thought this one was a lot easier than it now looks. Where is it?

Congratulations to last week’s winners

  • Dave Shortall

  • Maureen

  • Noreen King

Well done all of you! Correctly identifying It was of course, the sign on the way to Valentia. Well done again to Gerard Nugent for sending it in. Shame on all of you for not guessing why it was on fire.

Auntie Agnes’ Angle

Dearest Reader

We are well and truly into Winter this week. November, the month of the Holy Souls. It’s noticeably darker and wetter, and for some, this brings a dip in energy.  This change can make it harder to get out and about. It can take more of an effort to be social, to do other things that keep us well and connected. This can lead to loneliness and isolation for many, especially those who may live alone.

How does this change affect you and your energy? What tools do you have in your toolbox to support you?

It is helpful to have things like meeting someone for a cuppa, get out for a walk, eat nourishing food, get good sleep.

Kindness is also an important resource this time of year. I believe more kindness is much needed to heal the World. Be kinder to yourself and others. If you notice a friend, family member or neighbour struggling a bit this time of year, reach out and have a cup of tea. You don’t need to fix anything, just show up and be kind.

Take care out there
