Issue 90. Just like the Craic

AGNES, ROADS, PINTS, MACRAME

Good Afternoon and Welcome,

To issue No.90. It’s very late. Firstly, huge thanks to Waterville’s own Tom Horgan, who has very much provided the meat and potatoes of this week's newsletter. Thanks Tom!

South Kerry by the numbers

  • 1: There is one place to rent in South Kerry, here it is.

  • 850,000: € will get you the most expensive house for sale in South Kerry.

  • 80,000: € will get you the cheapest. Been up for a while that one hasn’t it?

First, a word from this week’s sponsor

What better way to start the new year than with a new sport? More here

Best Pint in South Kerry 2025

This week, due to what can only be described as an assortment of irregular voting patterns, the editorial board has taken the difficult decision to drag this competition out for another week.

Top 5 as it stands

Yes. As you can see, this week, it seems a person or potentially even persons, felt that The Lobster really deserved to retain their title for 2025. My question, for what I promise you will be the last time, is do they deserve it?

Vote Now:

N70 Waterville to Ballybrack Road Improvement Scheme

Its much more exciting than it sounds, look:

Won’t that be nice for an extension to the prom? There’s even a new bridge too.

The council now have this 1.4km road improvement scheme open for consultation here. Though I feel I should warn you before you dive right in that there are approximately 1.4km worth of supporting documents. If you are going to look at any of them, I feel you’d get the most out of taking a glance at the beautifully titled photomontage appendix. I’m not sure who the council have doing their photoshop, but some are not exactly what I expected…

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

Totally different this week. Where’s this?

Congratulations to last week’s winners

  • Noreen K

Well done Noreen!!! Outstanding achievement. I would say I’d send you a magnet, but I’ve something of a backlog there, so very well done. Noreen was the only one of you who recognised that it was of course, Dalys in Waterville, for three weeks running.

Auntie Agnes’ Angle

Hello Dear Readers,

I am just returning after an extended winter rest break. And I really needed it!

This is a strange time of year. It is dark & cold outside, most of nature hibernates. Yet we spurn ourselves into becoming better versions of ourselves starting on January 1st. In some ways, we are setting ourselves up for failure. I’ve tried this approach for more years than I care to admit. I thought there was no other way. But I’m here to tell you of another!

This approach encourages rest and restoration until the end of January. Embracing sleep, hearty meals and fireside reading.

Inviting our bodies, minds and spirits to rest and realign with each other.

We can then gently move our bodies into a routine that will sustain us for the rest of the year. We will then feel more able to embrace the year ahead, alongside a true desire to get outside more, see friends, enjoy our locality.

So take a leaf from this way, not new but forgotten, stay slow. It’s not time to renew just yet. You are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Stay safe & well

Wonderful to have her back isn’t it?
