Issue 97. Slow news week makes for bad title

BOOKS, LANTERNS, WELFARE, CARNEGIE

Good Afternoon and Welcome,

To issue No.97. Mornings are overrated…

South Kerry by the numbers

  • 452: People were on the Cahersiveen social welfare offices live register as of February 2026

  • 259: Of these are women

  • 41: Of these are under 25.

First, a word from this week’s sponsor

This marble tower is one of those toys children can’t resist. They pop a marble on top and watch it race, spin, and whirl its way down, building excitement with every turn until it finishes with a cheerful chime.

It encourages focus, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills, all through hands-on, active play. Kids love the speed, the movement, and the satisfying sound at the end, and they’ll want to send the marbles down again and again.

It’s The Signs of South Kerry 🎺🎺🎺

Must be the easiest one we’ve had. Where is it?

Congratulations to last week’s winners

So empty… Elizabeth has outfoxed you all! I won’t tell you where it was, we’ll have another go next week.

Auntie Agnes’ Angle

Agnes is indisposed this week, but she’d like to make you aware that healing is still available. Got a problem? Just

The Oracle Cartoon

This week, Tim is back fighting the good fight

Thanks Tim.

Cahersiveen’s Carnegie Hall will go to the ball

Did you hear that work is to begin on the Carnegie Building in Cahersiveen very soon? Well, soon. It should be completed by the end of 2027. Cllr Norma Moriarty has described this news as ‘very positive’ & TD Michael Cahill has described this as ‘hugely positive’. Personally, I’m looking forward to other public representatives weighing in. Will the next be massively positive? Gargantuanly? Colossally? Will be exciting, won’t it?

Also, whilst this is undoubtedly positive news, would it not be more positive still if work had started at the beginning of last year? That the centre had not closed in November 2024 in order to facilitate these works? You’d wonder why aren’t our elected representatives doing just that. In fairness to TD Michael Cahill he did just that, just last month.
